Last week (June 26-27, 2010), the G20 summit was held where all the "big bosses" came to discuss issues. Actually, the leaders of the G8 were there too but more buzz was made about the G20 than the G8. Weeks before that, the authorities were getting ready for the peaceful protests. Yes, the protests were in fact expected to be peaceful. Protesting peacefully is one of the ways that people can exercise their rights to voice out their concerns and opinions.
I was just finished praying Asr at a local mosque last Saturday when I saw that the police was blocking the road on the University Ave and Dundas St. W intersection. It was because of one of the peaceful rallies that were happening. I was intrigued so I thought I go check it out. There were a lot of people protesting about so many different things: Palestine, BP oil spill, human rights, peace, etc.
I decided to take some pictures so I went back to my apartment to take my camera when suddenly my friend invited me to see the movie Toys Story 3. He said he had an extra ticket. So I canceled my plan of snapping those pictures and went to the movie instead. Hey, it was free so how can I not go right? But I brought my camera with me. Maybe there will be something interesting to take pictures of. Boy, was I right about that.
Toys Story 3 was awesome with the 3D effect and all. I would recommend it to anybody. After that, my buddies and I went out of the theatre. To our surprise, the mall was closing and it was only around 4.00pm. We were a bit startled but we weren't expecting anything serious. But then, we walked to the Yonge St and Dundas St W intersection and found this:

Whoa, something was coming down! Or, it has already gone down. Then we heard somewhere from the crowd that there was a riot. It sure looked like it. So we walked along Yonge St to see what else has happened.

American Apparel. By far, this is the worse damage we've seen.

Oh no, Tim Hortons! |

In the middle of the ecstasy of shooting pictures, suddenly there was a person shouting "Run!" and everybody was all over the places. I panicked so I ran too. In my head I was expecting a gun shoot. But apparently, it was nothing. I heard from some lady that the police just nabbed someone. I don't know whether it's true or not but it doesn't matter. I lost my cool in a split second :)
I heard from the news that the protestors even burned a couple of police cars. These people are brutal. But the people responsible for this incident is not the majority of the protestors. Most of them are peaceful. But these handful of people with black attires and black masks caused this chaos. The police said they used the Black Bloc tactic. Whatever you call it, I call it trouble making.
