KUALA LUMPUR: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) will reduce foreign sponsorship for first degree courses and instead increase that of post-graduate studies from next year.

Its director-general, Datuk Ibrahim Muhamad said preference would be given to critical post-graduate courses at recognised universities and not merely at distinguished universities.

Speaking to reporters after launching the Mara Financial Operation Guidebook and Finance Division website here today, he said Mara would also implement its projects on a rolling plan basis as espoused by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when unveiling the 10th Malaysia Plan.

Ibrahim said with the implementation of projects on a two-year basis under the rolling plan from 2011, Mara expected its performance to be improved.

"A period of two years given to implement a project is adequate compared to a long-term basis as it will make Mara more focus in achieving project goals," he said.

On the newly launched guidebook and website, he said they would not only assist Mara officers but also improve their efficiency in implementing effective financial management. - Bernama
