University of Toronto Scarborough

University of Toronto at Scarborough is another campus of University of Toronto located on the eastern side of Toronto in Scarborough. The buildings and facilities are still pretty new and improving day by day. However, due to the nature of the location of the campus, moving about within Scarborough might be a bit of a pain. One good thing, the campus is not as big as St. George and it suffices to just walk your way around campus
.
It’s a pretty good place to study too if one prefers a serene countryside atmosphere. Classes are pretty normal with 250-300 students per session. Tutorials and labs with 25-30 students per session. The facilities are pretty awesome with 24/7 library and computer labs which offer their services earlier in the school session.

The teaching assistants are also pretty nice and helpful. And it’s usually normal that these TAs offer free study sessions before tests and exams. So grab those opportunities.

Student centre houses the ISC, food vendors, ATM machines, clubrooms and meeting rooms, prayer room, alumni room and also the student centre office and if I’m not mistaken a TV room or a party room. It’s also a cool place to just chill out and take a break.

The campus also offers various clubs and societies with lots of events. And sometimes, one can see a lot of things going on at the 'meeting place’ or the student centre like a special event day, orchestra, book sale, and etc.

One advise, get involved with the ISC in UTSC. They are really nice people to hang out with and also they pretty much will help you out if you have any questions regarding how to fit in. And ISC also frequently do events which offer free food. Yay!

Moving about within Scarborough might be a bit hard. Scarborough is big and gives this countryside vibe. And TTC means a lot to students if you don’t have your own transport. And luckily, the student centre sells a Metropass (a monthly pass to ride on the TTC), at a really cheap rate. Currently, there are two busses that go to UTSC and I heard a monorail that will stop at the campus is currently in planning.

Housing in Scarborough is actually much cheaper compare to downtown. And the residences are also much cheaper as well. It is advisable to stay on campus during your first year but it can also be quite expensive if you consider other factors.

As for daily expense, it depends on how you spend. But thoroughly, it’s not that high cost to live within Scarborough and with brilliant budget planning, the monthly allowance would be more than enough.

As for Muslim students that are coming to UTSC, nothing to fret about. Halal foods and prayer services are easily available. On campus, there is one multi-faith centre in the student centre and as far as I’m concern, there are a lot of mosques around the area. Halal foods are the same and easily available be it raw or readymade in restaurant. On Pharmacy Street, there are a whole lot of halal foods restaurants there, so drop by.

I think that’s pretty much it about UTSC since I’m not living there anymore. But I did my part of exploring so if any of you guys ever came to UTSC, just roam around UTSC and Scarborough and do your own exploring. Well, till then, good luck, study hard and play hard!
