Ryerson University

Website: ryerson.ca
Let me start off with the location of the campus. Ryerson University is located at the heart of downtown Toronto. It is all about city life surrounded by lots and lots of buildings. It is a very happening place. If you Google map the university you will notice that it has a pretty small campus, well size doesn't really matter! :)

Before I say anything else about Ryerson, if you are a student who is very concerned and particular about the University ranking and all that, you probably won't even know about the existence of Ryerson and not so interested to look at it at all. Just a tiny bit of advice, choosing a university is not all about the ranking it is about the experience that you get in the 4 years or more of your undergraduate life. Also, the value of your scroll will not really matter when you graduate, it will be your personality, character, experience and skills that you have carved in you that will save you in the corporate world.

Enough wisdom talk. Haha. I would highly recommend Ryerson University for students in Journalism, Fashion and Design, Film and Communication, any courses related to Business, Architecture, IT, Aerospace Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Anything other than what I mentioned is not very competitive at Ryerson. For all the Business students, by the time you graduate from Ryerson I can say that you might already have a business up and running. (you need to be actively involved in lots of activities though)

Ryerson focuses on career-ready education and boasts roughly 85% - 90% rate of employment. A lot of hands on experience opportunities for the students to be a part of. Since the size of the community is not too huge compared to other universities in Canada, you have more face-time with professors and they will help with nearly anything that you want (education related). For example, if you want to make and design some stuff (for engineers) the profs would give you all the support you need! If you can catch their interest with your ideas, you might get funded by the university. This is not limited to which year of study you are in. They don't care if you are only a fresh first year student or whatsoever, you have the creativity you succeed! The university president is also very friendly and you will get a chance to interact with him from time to time as long as you get involved in activities in campus.

Talking about campus activities, we have a very active International Student Service organization. You will come to love it. For first year international students you will have a mentor each to guide you throughout the year. Ryerson is also very very multicultural. If you want an experience of mingling with people from all around the world, this is really the best choice for you. If you are an introvert, probably it will be a tiny bit hard for you to be comfortable here. So far, there's only one Malaysian student here and yes that would be yours truly. Haha. I have heard about one or two others but they are Canadian raised Malaysians and I never even met them before only heard from random friends at Ryerson.

Probably this info is good enough for now. If there are any specific questions that needs an answer, don't hesitate to contact me.
